| For the future. |
[Jul. 17th, 2008|04:00 pm] |
The other day, I went in one more notch on my belt than usual because I could do so comfortably, at least on my hip (where everyone thinks their waist is).
Yesterday, I did so because if not, my pants would've not just been hanging low, but would've been around my ankles. This goes for both pairs I wore.
Today, I did so around my actual waist. You know, navel area.
IT IS ONLY WEEK THREE. SO HAPPY. |

| | Grateful Dead - Franklin's Tower 11/02/1979 | ] | Well.
Apparently I have Lyme Disease.
Umm, Woot...?
Not that this means I will stop going into the woods, but it does mean that for now I feel fatigued and feverish and don't want to leave the air conditioning. I should probably sit around and work on a few disease jokes to torment golden_silence with when she comes home.
The doctor gave me antibiotics for this, but, relying on my years of medical training, I know heroin dyed blue will be the most effective cure. Of course, as usual, the holistic cures which I use to defeat disease are ruled "unorthodox" by typical western doctors (and their buddies in law enforcement). Well, damn the man. I know Naked Lunch is just right-wing propaganda and that the little limes, or whatever magical beast that are leaching my qi will be warded off by the power of poppies and blue dye.

How'd I go 26 years without reading any Phillip K. Dick???? Of course, if I start reading his body of work at the rate I read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep last night, that is, in one sitting, then I'll have read everything he wrote in about five weeks! |

Did some playing around since it's REAL FOOD DAY and I figured I might as well, here's what came out of it.
Mise en place: A poblano pepper, chopped. A few (3-4) decent-sized tomatillos, sliced into thin wedges. Two Rosso Bruno tomatoes (they're like a dark green and come in three packs, these were at the "robust" green/red stage of ripeness), chopped. A small chopped onion and a clove of garlic sliced thin.
Small pat of butter in a skillet with some olive oil, bring that up to medium-high heat and throw in a thin slice of eye round to brown. This is actually completely optional, I just did it because my world is all about protein protein protein right now and I crave meat. Brown both sides, and pull it out - it's liable to be at least medium since as thin as it is, it cooks pretty quick.
Drop the heat to low, add a little more oil, throw in the 'tillos first, and the onions. Let them cook for a wee bit, then add the peppers and garlic. Add some Goya Mojo marinade (or just some lemon/lime juice and seasoning) and some hot sauce (I used Ray's Rad Chilies), let it cook in for a bit, then bring the heat back up to start simmering off the liquid. Around this point, I chopped up the steak and threw it back in.
Once the liquid's reduced by half, throw the tomatoes in there and continue reduction. I finally killed the heat when there wasn't much liquid left, and stuff was just about to start sticking to the pan around the edges. This stuff was amazing just on its own.
Recipe seems like it would work just as well with most any other meat, especially pork or chicken, or even with some beans thrown in. You could probably throw the veg salsa on its own into a food processor or blender for a couple whacks and then use it as a chip dip, on tacos, or over nachos. Definitely reusing this. |

| A Note - from Summer |
[Jul. 11th, 2008|09:38 pm] |
| [ | music |
| | Adele - "Chasing Pavements" | ] | I had a bunch of things I wanted to talk about - the return of fireflies at night, evenings sitting in the park grass, and the dubious mushroom adventures. But, as usual, it all shifts to some fogged place in the back of my mind.
I have started journaling, in an actual journal. It's still infrequent, but I think I could grow to really enjoy it (I already feel I benefit). The trick for me is to not turn it into a ritual. Too often I impose a meaning onto an act or goal, rather than letting it stand on its own merit. Music is one of the few things free of this habit. I may like or dislike something, but it remains a purely subjective opinion, and I still enjoy the fact that people can make sounds and pulses and messages. It all still feels, for the most part, creative in spirit. That isn't the case with theatre or films. I blame technical training in the latter for spoiling the former. I can still enjoy a show/movie, but I can't close off the part of my mind that analyzes what I'm seeing. There has only been one recent film to manage to quiet that mental voice: No Country for Old Men. Tangent, sorry. Right. Summer. The weather is beautiful. Life is good, overall. It's just that there is nothing new to report. My life feels rather stagnant. I know that it isn't, but a lot of the changes are sort of "behind the scenes", so from the outside, my life is the same. I think some changes are coming, but I always tend to think that. =) |

| | Spitz -- Looking For | ] | Writing cover letters: Still one of the worst things, but not quite as terrible as I remembered it being. It's a lot easier than last time, so far, but still fairly rough as far as things go. Luckily I've not been doing too many things that are terrible recently, if any things at all aside from watching things and reading things and listening to things.
Let's see if I have the courage to send them tonight!
I need some more ice cream, and for my new debit card to arrive in the mail as well as my Sound of Young America t-shirt.
And now, a picture of a flower! Because I take so many. Because there really isn't a whole lot else that's terribly interesting outside my house short of snooping on the neighbors :P
